What exactly do you mean by "grim"? If it means having actual repercussions for Masquerade breaches(PC, NPC, or otherwise), that'd work. If it means having the Werewolves harassed for no apparent(within the last month or 2) reason, then I'd have to wonder... Having a world with vampires and werewolves is dark enough without any additional influences.

This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for - thanks. Just a reminder to all those vamps out there: in this game Path = average of con and self-control/instinct and will = av. of courage and self/instinct. As for adam's point - I want it grim, this game isn't quite to the grimness level that I'm shooting for...yet. As for the arguements against removing courage - (just my take on it - am flexable on this point) as the beast takes hold, the urge for self-preservation becomes stronger (rotschrek anyone?) and the urge to avoid those things that can destroy you becomes stronger as a result. hence the possible courage loss. Maybe it just might work better with it being the ST's call at the situation as to what you would loose. (grin)

Actually, willpower is related to courage, i.e. willpower equals courage rating before freebie point spending.

Semantics Man    - Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 18:08:34 (EST)

I forgot how it works in LARP, but in table top Courage is related to your willpower not you path rating. I think Consience/conviction, self control/instict should drop if people dont play humanity. I saw a vamp with humanity 4 off a couple cops and think nothin of it. If it is those kind of situations that John wants to Wupp, then count me as all for it!

Pyle   <click to email>
- Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 17:05:35 (EST)

I can't say one way or the other as I don't play a vampire too much but with the way I have seen others play their characters the mere idea sounds like a step in the right direction. I would be curious as to how much people have invested in disciplines and weather or not they could honestly say, even to themselves, that they play anything more than super humans with a few flaws. I don't feel that any game should be about what powers you can get that no normal man can use. If you want a game like that there are plenty of superhero table tops you could play. Sometimes I feel that alot of people get so caught up in the glamor of the mystical and supernatural that they overlook the simple "mundane" solutions that will work just as well if not better considering we are to disillusion the masses into thinking that there are no supernaturals.

Alex   <click to email>
- Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 10:06:18 (EST)

I agree with Adam on this one. If your courage rating is your highest rating, I don't think that your humanity/path rating should really affect that at all. Consience/conviction, self control/instict - yes, it SHOULD affect those. Just because you don't have alot of connection to humanity, doesn't mean that you can't be a brave little sh*t. :)

Mike  <click to email>
- Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 09:18:40 (EST)

I don't see that as making much sense. If I had a Courage rating of 5, I don't think I should lose a point of Courage because I lost some Humanity. I could see it affecting Self-Control or Conscience, but I still don't think losing 4+ XP worth of Path related "stuff" is a good idea.

Adam    - Monday, January 29, 2001 at 23:22:25 (EST)

I'm thinking of adding another JW custom rule to the game. This involves paths (of morality). In the table top game the degredation of the soul is a major dramtic element that I find lacking in the LARP permutation. So what I'm thinking is that when you lose a path rating you lose a point from your highest virtue. This is a permenant loss in that you must role-play and spend xp to regain this virtue point. Reactions?

Apparently, White Wolf is smoking a lot of Ganja. Eventhough they've got Laws of the Wild up for pre-sale, it won't ship till April. Bah... Also, what's the level of interest in the Elder game? Is there any? Is it too far away schedule wise that people just don't have any interest yet?

Mr. Wixx. You make the common mistake of confusing insanity with stupidity. I feel I have exhibited my intelligence enough to prove its existence. That whole escapade with the fire hydrants and the dog shit kind of put you into question though. Not because you thought of the idea, but because you thought it would work. Also next time you want to defend your intelligence, try to use proper grammar Mr Kettle. And yes, Mordaine, we are damned by god, but I feel your breed are just a bit more damned. I know you control the influence of this city. I offer knowledge of the Werewolves in the city in exchange for influence over the fields of Industry and Government. I noticed how the city is falling apart and all... and how even as the camarilla is supposed to be so obviously strong... it is crumbling before our very eyes. The Sabbat and beasts are infiltrating? What a horrible fate should become of Lansing while it's strongest vampires are off in Chicago... being the calvalry. Did they not see it coming? -I wonder to myself... Did they not smell a set-up? Fools they be, if they did not. How odd could it not seem that a small band of courageous kindred could fight off the lot of Chicago's troubles... leaving the city of Lansing to fend for itself with weaklings... always turning on one another. The Ventrue killing the Sheriff... the Brujah killing the Ventrue... the massive hunt out for the Nosferatu... what a pity... at you all I do shake my head. Shameful lot of you all.

Well this is my entire deal here: yes, clever and humane is good, to an extent. But force is almost always neccisary. Augustus Ceasar was the most clever emperor there ever was, yet he needed force to guide his will. Such things are not seen in anything Asserax has done.

Jimmy Wixx   <click to email>
- Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 22:15:37 (EST)

So, Mr. Cochrane, what news do you bring from Chicago? I am glad to see you are back safely. Are things getting better there? My information is somewhat limited when it comes to reports from that city. The populus at large is griping heavily about Prince Asserax, and they seem to only notice the bad things. We have a basically Sabat free city, the werewolves are not ripping us from our cars and havens, and as far as the Setites are concerned. Would you rather them an direct enemy? Dealing with them is tricky yes, but it's the lesser of two evils. If someone has a better idea, i and i'm sure everyone else would like to hear it. And unless you are going to say something intelligent with support of your statements, please shut up. Thank you.

Well well, greetings from the windy city. An interestin' discussion goin' on here I must say. Let me explain something my esteemed kindred: Asserax is in the position he is in because he is effective and humane. Effective due in part to his particular talents with mortals but more so because of the resources he so generously spends keeping your foolish faces off the Nightly News and the 10 most wanted list. I mention humanity because it is something to which we should all aspire. It is what separates us from our enemies and it makes us clever, clever enough to see that brute force as a solution to everything has consequences. Why not cooperate with your noble and humane Prince.

The strong tyrant you desire would not have even stood up for this discussion. I'd rather have a wise and clever Prince than a strong and stupid one anyday. Asserax balances many stones. I wonder whether another would have his same grace.

I'm sorry but I cannot follow someone who makes deals with the Sabbat. Allows the Snakes into our garden "In name only". He allows the lupines and allows them to kill our own without retaliation. I am sorry frank but you and I must agree to disagree.

Jimmy Wixx   <click to email>
- Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 16:06:57 (EST)

Young Jimmy,

I must respectfully, disagree. Our beliefs are what makes us. You judge Asserax on what you believe...saying that his beliefs are wrong. I must say, no one in this city is of position to tell him as such. He runs this city how he believes it should be run, and that is what makes him a strong leader. If a leader simply bows to those under them, they are no more than a figurehead...which he is far from. I may not agree with every choice that he has made as to how the city has been run, however, he is Prince, and as such, affords the luxury of holding his beliefs above all others.

I will say no more on the issue...good evening...

Frank   <click to email>
- Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 16:03:40 (EST)

Frank Frank Frank, I'm not a young, or as stupid as you'd think. This city is a cesspool because of pore leadership. We need someone stronger than past princes, stronger than I. I have a canidate in mind but I will not speak his name until I speak with him myself. I appreciate your not-helping as much as I resent it. But it is your decision and I and the rest of the clan will respect it. As for Asserax,he had a good idea. But it soon turned into a belief and beliefs are unchangeable. and that is not what makes a good prince.

Jimmy Wixx   <click to email>
- Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 15:54:35 (EST)

Young Jimmy...

Do you always speak so to your elders? Mr. Assarax is prince for a reason, and regardless of if you agree with how he is running this cesspool of a city...no offense meant to you Asserax...he still deserves the respect of an elder. Fight with him if you will. Try and force him out of leadership if you will. However, do not be so foolish as to force him down without having a replacement that is suitable to run this city. If you yourself are thinking of taking that position, do not forget that the Prince, more that anyone, wears a target on their back..simply waiting for someone to put a sharp piece of wood through. Also...remember that us, more than any of the others...are the first to be extinguished in any Jyhad...

I am not going to tell you what to do. I am not going to say anymore as far as this is concerned. I am not going to assist you in this...rash...maneuver. I am also not going to work against you in the manner...

I was once young and irrational such as you...perhaps in time, you too will learn, and be tempered by time to not act so hastily on such things without thought....

Be safe, young one....

I could say many things here about my beliefs and goals for myself and the city; however, such would amount to little more than pointless bickering and the meaning of such words would be lost. Therefore, I shall be leaving the city for a few days, to let my actions and policies speak for themselves. I need some time to regain my mental and emotional strength, and the city needs the time to discuss the matter of my Princehood. If the Primogen and my officers can agree that my services as Prince are no longer required, then I shall gladly step down. Anybody else with views on the current situation should discuss such with their Primogen. While I am away, the city shall be in the capable hands of the Seneschal.

I do not agree with the punishment the Prince Asserax set forth for Ms. Nightstar. But as he is Prince, I am forced to go along with it. Had it been myself giving the punishment, I would have been very much more harsh. We cannot have the killing of our own kind in our city. I do not particularly hold a grudge with the Brujah, I would have wanted vengeance for the death of my childer as well. It is unfortunate that Lord Welcomb and Joshua have become enemies of the Camirila. I am not exactly sure who to blame for this. Perhaps there should be no blame, for blame is for people who need an excuse to be pissed off. I do not need an excuse, and will take care of those who have earned their destruction, with a smile. And as it is my belief, and I would wish others to embrace the idea, to not bring fire on a whole clan for the mistakes of one of it's members. If we did this, then there would eventually be no one around.

Prince Asserax, I will be the one to inform you that this is enough, Prince or no prince, your desicions aren't and have not been the best for the city. The desicions of asserax? Thats bullshit and you know it, your not to be makeing desicions for yourself when it comes to the possible destruction of another it is for the good of the city. You should know, if your sire taught you anything besides how to play the stock market, that when you become leader of the city you put personal beliefs aside. I am taking a stance of everyone and comeing out and saying what everyone is afraid to say, it would be in your best intrest to step down as prince. I do not mind being called a fool; the statement is quite likely accurate. I do, however, take offense at being referred to as spineless. I realize that my decisions last Saturday were questionable, against the will of most members of the city, and not conforming to standard Camarilla practice: a cowardly man would have simply had the offender executed by some means of clan Brujah's liking and avoided any political and personal conflict; I am not that man. If a Kindred is acknowledged in this city, I will listen to whatever he has to say, and will do whatever I can to assist him; I refuse, however, to overlook my beliefs and bow to the whims of the city. I understand completely if some members of the Camarilla are opposed to the way that this city is run; there are plenty of "standard" Camarilla cities that they may move to, comlpete with brutish policy and lightly called blood-hunts. In fact, I shall be happy to provide arrangements for anybody who wishes to leave. Furthermore, I shall state that the decisions I have made are not the decisions of clan Ventrue, they are the decisions of Asserax. I have tried to avoid any bias due to clan loyalty to the best of my ability, and strongly believe that I would have passed the same judgement on a member of any clan had they committed the same atrocity. We have outlasted the Sabbat: Let us not fall to ourselves.

Okie, here's the setting for the Elder game. The year is 2003. Gehenna(if you beleive in whatever that is) has not occurred, but the Jyhad has been at an all time high. Fighting was particular vicious near Mexico City and DC. Somehow, the Camarilla managed to retake DC, and has Mexico City completely under siege. Realizing they've been beaten, the Sabbat have offered their surrender rather than be utterly destroyed. This is where the game takes over. Prince Francois Villon of Paris is holding the "peace" negotiations in a small French town, just outside of Paris. The PC's will take the role of either a Cardinal of the Sabbat or an emissary for the Inner Circle of the Camarilla. Each clan of the Camarilla will have a set agenda to accomplish during the event, while the Sabbat's main goal(at least the obvious one) will be to strike a deal so as to not get totally screwed. Both sects will have one member whose sole purpose will be to maintain decorum and ensure that the Traditions are observed. Any clan of either sect is allowed. One member of each independent clan(that still has a 3rd gen. clansman) will be admitted, solely as observers. The game will take place on the first Friday of April. Tell those with no internet access, tell your friends, tell your enemies. See everyone next week.

of course the offer extends to you... and brandon, supposing he needs a ride too (and pat, for that matter). And that alone is a van-full... so I cut off the limit there. let me know where I can pick you up at... and at what time. -Jen

Jason,

I have ICQ and Aim. My two Icq accounts are 84371023 (Grimlock) and 37708596 (Pyle). Grimlock is my work ICQ and Pyle is my home account. On AIM I am ShadowsSon. Feel free to get ahold of me as I am usually on line at one of those. Or e-mail my privatepyle@voyager.net account. Catch you later!

Its possible that I might swing down to confusion for the night, so I could theoretically play. Its not all that likely though. So in the end, I'm rather indifferent as to where it'd be.

John das Pirate    - Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at 11:21:38 (EST)

I do not believe I will be going to Confusion. If someone near the Durand area is going and would offer me a ride, I would not object.

ok, as far as confusion goes, I was planning on making a day trip down there... untill I realized that my buddies at tree of shadows are playing during larp hours... *sigh* oh well. and Zach, there are 3-4 conventions a year in michigan, then there's dragon con and gen con... and you know how those go.

No way, Lansing is far enough for half of us to drive theres no way in hell we're spend a full weeks check to goto sterling hieghts and I speak for Justin, John Eichorn, Myself, Henry and probably most the owosso people as well. Thats 4 votes for no and if there's gonna be a con once a month and a fae game once a month so there's only a vamp game twice a month it's nopt worth it for me personally.

Honestly, I'd rather game here in East Lansing this weekend instead of going to ConFusion... and I may end up in Alpena as well, so I don't even know if that's a possibility.

Not really. Ask any werewolf player and he will tell you rank is not that hard to come by in standard Werewolf LARP rules. The only thing holding us down now is a Storyteller dessisson. (Which I Support) At one CON I gained enough reknown to jump to legendary status and not SPEND ANY EXPERIENCE. See the difference? Werewolfs are meant for killin. Vampires are meant for having meetings. End of disscussion. I am not going to Confusion. I may have to go to Alpena this weekend.

Where is Sterling Heights?

Adam    - Monday, January 15, 2001 at 23:23:03 (EST)

Hullo everyone, I hope changeling went well at Dave's on Saturday. I'll love to hear the stories/comments/complaints. I figured out why it was that I wanted to have the skip week on the third week of this month originaly - ConFusion. This is a fen con in Sterling Heights running this coming weekend. As far as I know, I'm not the only one from this game currently planning on going there either. So, I would like to take a poll as to how many are planning on going. If a good number are going/can go, I'm entertaining the idea of holding the LARP there - in a variety of hotel rooms for locations. (as well as the whole hotel) Lemme know people.

Zach   <click to email>
- Sunday, January 14, 2001 at 10:49:43 (EST)

Zach, you realize Garou get those abilities as well? Rank two is the same as might. Rank three is the bomb. Rank four is an additional health level. Rank five wins all ties. Rank six is additional point of damage. So Garou have potence powers and 23 physical traits.(If your a theurge) However it is a proven fact that Fae can wupp them all. Ask Jack Webb. Anyone else care to play?

Pyle   <click to email>

NO    - Sunday, January 14, 2001 at 00:06:10 (EST)

I'll tell ya what, you can have your 23 physical traits and I just want puisance. I win all ties, ontop of that I don't lose physicals because I can bid potence as a trait AND I through the bomb. And if all those fails there's always might.

What I meant by creation balance was that vampires get a lot more points to spend at creation. Garou get up to 12, 14 with a derangement. Vampires can get up to 21.

Given this and wilk's feelings, I'm assuming we're running fae this weekend. Blodgett, are you good to go with that? email or otherwise get in touch with me so we can work some stuff out.

John das pirate    - Thursday, January 11, 2001 at 20:30:55 (EST)

My place is fine though there is still confusion as to what is to be played here. Whatever game is on for the weekend my place is off of Waverly road. 3801 Brighton. From the Fortress take Grand River to 496 through town to the Lansing Road exit Lansing road curves to the left, then merges with the highway until you are at Waverly Road. Take a left, go over the river, past Holmes Road you'll see an Admiral gas station, take the first left just beyond that, take a right on Brighton and find 3801.

See you then and if my directions are too confusing or if you're coming from a different direction (like Ann Arbor) visit MapQuest.com for a better plan.

Adam. In regards to the abomination LARP with avatars. NO NO NO NO NO NO NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! You should be beaten about the head and shoulders with your abominations. In regards to playing this weekend I would love to play either Changeling or Vamp/Garou but worry about the close deadline and no concrete plans suggests a small turn out and confusion. Maybe we should look into alternative spots to hold the LARP as back up in the rare case that something such as this weekend occurs.

Fortress is closed this weekend because of the War Hammer Tornament right?

Cho Cho    - Monday, January 08, 2001 at 20:57:25 (EST)

I'm willing to run fae this weekend, as is Blodgett I believe, but it would of course depend on the players. Beck's is also an option like I said, depending on the size of the game. Dave, if you see this, and are still offering your abode, lemme know. That might be a cheaper alternative, assuming slapnut and cho-cho don't break holes in the walls.

John the pirate    - Monday, January 08, 2001 at 20:21:37 (EST)

Well I talked to the Apartment complex. They need a check for the $150 to reserve it. They will not cash it untill after the event. The problem is I dont have a checking account. Anybody out there who is willing to sacrifice a check that will never be cashed? Other than that I have tentatively reserved the room for us. Keep in touch.

Dave Crampton  <click to email>
- Monday, January 08, 2001 at 14:14:25 (EST)

Well, quite the use of fonts there. $150 is the limit I set for the cost of the site so that's acceptable by me. However, I need a comittment from Pirate that this is going to happen. So that we don't break the bank I'd like to charge 5 bucks a head (slapnut gets in free in that case ) Pyle, will you front the cash and get repaid by me the following week? Let me know quick if this won't work. Pirate, please give the door take to Pyle after the game and we'll settle the remainder of the bill (if this goes through) As for the changling players - Is 5 bucks acceptable? It's the most stable offer we've had so far.

ST John   <click to email>

That is not my dession to make. I was informed that John Wilk declared this the skip week instead of the 20th like it is supposed to be because of the war hammer tournament. Then I was ask by the Changeling storytellers if I would look into the cost of the lounge at my apartment complex. I have done so. The lounge would work for either genre as it has more available space then the Fortress. Please inform me A.S.A.P as to whether or not you will need me to reserve the lounge. I do not care if it is for Vampire or Changeling as long as we have a game this weekend. Talk to you later,

- Monday, January 08, 2001 at 10:26:34 (EST)

I contacted my management company in regards to renting the lounge for this Saturday's Changeling Game. Any use of the Lounge requires a $100 downpayment. The cost for Saturday would be $150. At last count the Changeling LARP was at 20 to 25 people. That would put the cost per person at $4/$5. Please let me know A.S.A.P. if this is an option that we want to do. The lounge is available for this Saturday now, but there is not guarentee that it will be if we delay on this dession. I hope I have helped a little.

In a tragic weekend, two people where found slain on the residential streets of Grand Ledge. Apparently, they were attacked by several animals.

In a related story, an old woman was scalped and torn to pieces in a vicious attack in the same neighborhood.

alright, apparently the fae LARP can only be done next week. Since eric will object if we beat the warhammer spins with tuna to drive them out, we need another place to play. There are several options: Pyle has offered to try to get a ball room at his apartment. Dave Beck has said we could possibly have it at his place, as has apparently John Wilk (John, I heard that second hand, so if its wrong, correct me). I need feedback on you guys if you want to even have it, and if so what locale is preferable. I also need an idea of how many people are coming, as that may limit locale.

Okie, I'm planning on running an Elder Con-Like vampire game, the last Friday of March, or first Friday of April. VampireLord Ledger(aka Pyle) will be Co-Storytelling. He and I will be constructing the characters from the backgrounds, concepts, and clan we receive. All clans normally represented in either sect will be accepted, none of the wierd ones though(Kiasyd, Samedi, Nagaraja, Old Clan Tzimisce, etc.). Independent clans will be allowed on a first come, only one basis(I.E. Only one independent of each independent clan). Weaseling additional stuff on your character sheet will be allowed, also on a case by case basis, and support for your arguement should be in your background. However, nothing any typical clan member would get(any common discipline, and a couple clan specific, not bloodline, disciplines will feasible additions). Toreador won't be getting Thanatosis, and no one will be getting Temporis. I'll mention the setting after talking with Pyle a little more(probably during announcements of the LARP on the 20th or 27th). Questions can be directed to the E-mail link below or the board of course. One important thing: The game will be meant to one of politicking, deal making, and backstabbing(figuratively). I know coming from me, it wreaks of hypocrisy, but I just played on one of these, didn't get involved in a single challenge against any of the other PC's and had a great time.

After having viewed the classic movie Starcrash, we have decided to make some revisions to the direction the changeling game is headed.

1. The baron may halt the flow of time by saying "freehold, halt the passage of time" while looking off into space. Note: this will only last 3 minutes, and will be accompanied by utterly extraneous special effects.

2. One character, chosen randomly, will be able to see the future and be immune to all weapons. He cannot allow others to alter the future, for this would break the law, but is able to alter the future for himself at his leisure.

3. Unseelie characters may construct a doom space fortress, as long as takes the shape of an articulated body part. This ship must also have glass windows, the breaking of which has no effect on the ship or its occupants.

4. All nocker golems created in the game will be immune to all weapons, save clubs wielded by crazy old men. These weapons will destroy the golem instantly. Furthermore, all golems must have an annoying redneck accent.

5. Laser weapons will now be available in game. However, all players will still be required to use melee weapons, as will all NPCs.

6. During the next session, we will be introducing an antagonist NPC who will devise ludicrously overwrought plots to destroy the PCs that can be easy circumvented by using simple concepts, or logical leaps that make no rational sense. The main NPC allied with the characters will be doing this as well.

that's all for now; I'm sure other additions will be thought of in time. Hope to see you all soon!

Mr. Jonathan Wing: However much it pains me, your recent actions have left me no choice but to demand that you leave the city immediately; if you refuse to leave, then you shall be removed by force. To all: I am still undecided as to who shall fill the position of sheriff. If you would like to be considered for the position, send your qualifications and reasons to me.

Happy New Year!!!! Just a couple of quick things and I will let everyone get back to their hangovers.

First of all, Cho Cho I am all for the Werewolf dinner Saturday as long as their is no trout. Trout is the most foul tasting, smelly, slimey and ill-tempered fish in the fish kingdom!

Second: I would like to welcome John Wilk and his Bionic legs back to LARP. Happy Birthday Malcolm!!!

Third: Now that Werewolf is a fully armed and operational genre, I would like to annouce that I am no longer going to play the NPC alpha character. When you see me at LARP, I am no longer Barks-at-Ghosts.

Fourth: I would like to invite all of you to try Werewolf even if you have tried it before and did not like it. This particular game is geared differently then any you have played. We are all part of a Caern of Stealth under orders NOT to interact or interfear with the area around us. OF course since we are CUBS, we occasional mess that up. (Killing 22 people, oops) The point is we are haning fun and would like to have you join us!

Five: I am sure most of you are wondering what or who "Wilson" is. To truely know his power you must watch "Castaway" starring Tom Hanks. Basically he is a vollyball that helped keep Tom alive for four years on the island. He became Tom's only friend. So in many ways it is just like Zack in real life today! ALL HAIL WILSON!

Six: Joy, do you question the power of Chinchilla? Wilson is disspleased...

Seven: Just because you love it soo much, this is for you Skippy:

Happy New Year Skippy the Safe Mode Monkey! And to you as well Taco Boy!! Wilson and I love you!!!!
